Where Did This Come From?

What's next? Bud Selig is a woman? The Washington Nationals are all from Mars? If anyone else wants to leak any more damning and scandalous-type stories related to baseball or former baseball players, please come forward, now is the time to do so.

Let's get a few things out of the way, first off. The story here is that Robbie Alomar, of New York Mets fame, is being sued by his ex-girlfriend, who claims that he forced her to have unprotected sex with him, claiming he was disease-free. The suit goes on to detail how Alomar allegedly has AIDS, and how doctors in 2006 found a "mass in his chest".

Obviously, whether or not Alomar has AIDs or HIV or any other STD is of no concern to baseball, at least its integrity. I mean, it's not like we needed any further proof that Alomar was a jerk. And, if he does in fact have some sort of disease (which he and his family denies), you obviously wish him the best.

But, could there be a worse timing for this story? Baseball's image already reeling with the news that seemingly every player worth a damn did steroids now gets news that another great player from that era also didn't have much of a moral side.

When I heard about this report, I reacted in the same way I would if driving by a car accident.

1. I said to myself, who cares, keep driving?
2. I figure, if I'm right here, I might as well take a look, see what actually happened.
3. I look, and am disgusted by the gory details.

You can file this one under the same category of "Out of Left Field", right after Eddy Curry's little sexual harassment suit with his male driver.

Again, do I really care if Alomar has AIDs? Or, if the suit is true, and he knowingly had unprotected sex with his girlfriend? No, not really. But, after a while, is it so much to ask for a positive story to come out of the sports world? Maybe a player doesn't cheat or lie to his girlfriend or to Congress?

Come on, let's not get ridiculous.
