Apparently, Ben Sheets got wind of the news of the Reds signing Jacque Jones and Daryle Ward a bit earlier than everyone else. What else would explain why he's seriously considering surgery on his arm and missing a large chunk of the upcoming season?
Um, duh. He knows it'd just be a waste to even play this year.
We do apologize to any Cubs fans hoping for these former North Siders to reunite. Some how, Cubs brass feels going after pitching is a more pressing need. Shows what they know about winning championships.
With all the talk about the stalled free agent market due to the tumbling economy, the Manny's and Dunn's and such still available, there were two studs just waiting to be picked up. Idling in the abyss that is free agency.
Nary a story told about Mr. Jones and Mr. Ward. No, the focus was squarely on some clown that doesn't hustle, jaked his way out of Boston and hit a rather pedestrian .396 for his new team. Or, on some oversized former left fielder that has hit at least 40 bombs each of the last five years. Like that's so hard.
The Reds, in one afternoon, decided it was time to win the NL Central. They were in the market for someone to throw three hoppers from right field to second base and another person to hit balls into the Alleghany River when they visit the Pirates. Two signings, two needs filled.
Call the Reds crazy, but, all they care about is winning. Are their needs a bit too specific? Likely. But, never, ever, ever question the decisions of a champion. Or, at least the decisions of a team that won 74 games last year.
Let's not forget a full season of Micah Owings
ReplyDeleteThats why they call Cincy the Queen City.
