He was supposed to be the one to cleanly break Barry Bonds home run record. He was supposed to be the one to go down in the record books as maybe the greatest player to ever live. He was supposed to be the man that, despite the ridiculous flack he had taken up to this point, that people would remember for generations as the modern day Babe Ruth.
Not anymore. This news is disastrous for baseball. Just completely and utterly disastrous.
What does baseball do now? The suspicions were there despite the Mitchell Report that other major names skated through cleanly. Now that A-Roid has been fingered, who's next? This black cloud will follow every player in baseball around when pitchers and catchers report next week.
And, what will A-Roid say to the media? How will he spin this one? Will he deny it? Will he apologize? He denied this in the past in an interview with Katie Couric on CBS:
What a colossal disaster for baseball.
I cant wait to hear who the other 104 names are?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Griffey should be considered the best of the modern era?
ReplyDeleteMind, I'm a die-hard Yankee fan, but :
ReplyDeleteI think you also need to consider the following (mind, I think A-Rod's guilty as fuck), 1) there were 104 names, so why was A'rod's the only one leaked? 2) If A-Rod takes the Giambi route, he'll likely be forgiven (as opposed to Bonds/Clemens)
1. Ken Griffey Junior
ReplyDelete2. Frank Thomas (adamant about steroid testing from the beginning of his career)
No one, that hasn't been implicated in steroids can match these 2 sluggers numbers.
i agree with everything rebecca said, from arod being guilty obviously to being a yankee fan. but, also...
ReplyDelete1.when will they just get everything leaked and settled, so we as fans can move on and get on with our lives? if a-rod is vilified forever, so be it. the game won't die, maybe suffer, but it'll be fine. i'd like to just move on, if that means without a-rod in historic lore, then so be it.
2.also, is there nothing to be said for the fact that he'd been tested 8 or 9 times since that point and came up negative (and came clean in the more stricter world baseball classic testing under international rules) and yet had one of his best seasons ever in 2007?
Albert Pujols is another guy I think will be on this list. Baseball sources that I have talked to in the past have told me that Pujols used performance enhancing drugs to vault his way to the major leagues. It's unclear whether he used while in the big leagues, but I'm guessing he'll be on this list too at some point.
ReplyDeleteAnother disturbing revelation from the world of sports. As the list of dishonorable athletes grows, the list of big name sports role models continues to shrink at a frightening rate.
ReplyDeleteI think people are also missing the huge point that MLB Players Union and Gene Orza could be complicit in working with the players to warn them of their upcoming drug tests. Wouldn't that be worse than the players themselves using the drugs? Baseball has a much bigger problem than just the usage of the drugs if these allegations prove to be true. Whatever little credibility they currently have will be gone.
