Something in you, something deep down in your soul, can't possibly feel bad for Elton Brand.
Whether it's that you don't pity the Sixers' terrible start to the season, or his incredibly sub-par stats, or, maybe, just maybe, the fact that he injured himself last night.
Call it just desserts. Call it reaping what you sow. Call it whatever you like, but, you gotta admit, if you know how Elton Brand got to be a 76er in the first place, you can't feel bad that he dislocated his shoulder last night.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not happy that he's in pain. No. We here at BERNing don't advocate that sort of thought. Yet, I can say, I'm glad to see misfortune bestowed upon the former Dukie.
The snap shot of Elton Brand, prior to this summer's fiasco, was one of a Duke sophomore, turned Bull, turned Clipper. Dutiful, successful, and hard working, everywhere he went.
This summer, that all changed. After opting out of the last year in his L.A. Clipper contract to test the free agent waters, Brand basically had said he'd return to L.A., forming a tandem with another superstar that would coming back to L.A., former UCLA guard Baron Davis.
Then, Philadelphia and Golden State got involved. Brand, this year's Carlos Boozer or basketball's Rafael Furcal, simply ditched his commitment, and headed east. I'll give Brand credit, he didn't go for more money (that final year of his L.A. contract would've been more than what Philly wound up offering him). Still, he didn't honor his word. He gave a few vague reasons, but, he still wound up leaving B-Diddy high and dry.
Now, I've heard that Elton knows when us bloggers are talking about him, but, I can't bite my tongue. What he did was downright two-faced, however, I'm over that at this point.
An underperforming team, a fired coach, career-lows, and now, a shoulder injury? All I can say is, what goes around, comes around.
When will NBA executives come to their senses, and recognize that Chris Webber could still 20, 8, and 4 for just about every team in the NBA? I hope al-quadi targets Maurice Speights next.
