Peavy told them that he met with Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry Sunday night. The Padres ace said he would be thrilled to come to the Cubs, and would love to pitch alongside Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster, Rich Harden and Ted Lilly. Peavy said that rotation would "dominate the NL". Peavy claims Hendry indicated that Cubs righty Jason Marquis would need to be dealt before the Cubs could make a deal.
According to a source, Peavy also mentioned that Hendry's primary focus for the meetings this week was to acquire a right fielder, ideally one who bats left handed. Hendry also told Peavy the Cubs might be forced to deal second baseman Mark DeRosa, because moving his salary would allow the Cubs the financial flexibility to bring Peavy to Chicago.
Furthermore, Peavy said if the Cubs deal Mark DeRosa, they are interested in signing aging middle infielder Rich Aurilia to play shortstop.
